Case Study

Aligning Change Management Practices with Scaled Agile (SAFe)

Project Overview

Global IT transitioned from delivery using waterfall to Scaled Agile (SAFe) methodology to shorten the time taken to implement key functionality, as well as improve the quality of solutions. We were unable to find external sources of best practice to help us deliver people and business change alongside SAFe, so we developed and adapted our methodology to fill the gap successfully.

The Solution

Evaluation and adaptation of our best practice to ensure it was fit for purpose when working with Agile programme delivery.

We Delivered

  • Updated methodology and artefacts to support business change activities.
  • Continuous improvement approach to our ways of working.
  • A business change KANBAN for each programme to manage our activities.
  • Business change stories in JIRA aligned with technical stories.
  • Bite size training and communications alongside the big picture and visioning.

The Difference We Made

  • The definition of “DONE” became focused on business deployment not just technical delivery.
  • Facilitated system demos to ensure there was a focus on user processes and experience.
  • Business change became an integral part of the Agile team.
  • Updated our online resources for change management best practice and shared across the organisation.
  • Reinforced a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement in the team.
